UDALGURI, March 15 – The 12 hour long dawn to dusk BTAD area bandh called separately by Bodoland Peoples’ Progressive Front (BPPF-R) and All Boro Peace Forum for Peace and Rights (ABPFPR) passed off peacefully in the entire Udalguri district without any untoward incidents till the filing of this report. The bandh was called by the two organisations separately protesting against the ‘indiscriminate police firing upon the innocent people at Bengtol in Chirang district of BTAD on March 13 last which caused death of four lives and serious injuries of many others in the incident.
In a hurriedly called press meet here at BPPF party office today, Prodeep Kumar Daimari, vice president and Dilu Sarmah, organising secretary of the central committee of the party strongly criticised the Hagrama regime in the BTC region and opined that life of common people was not secure in this regime in the BTAD region. The duo also condemned the Bengtol police firing and held Hagrama Mohilary, chief of the BTC administration responsible for the incident.
Our Barpeta Correspondent adds: Normal life in some of the areas of Barpeta district and Baksa district were paralysed as the bandh was total in the north and north west parts of the Barpeta and entire part of Baksa district. Banks, Insurance company offices business establishments were closed in those areas. Vehicular traffic on the roads were thin.
Our Jalah Correspondent adds: Normal life in the Baksa district was badly hit today due to the 12 hour bandh which evoked full response in the district. During the period, shops, markets, business establishments, educational institutions and offices were closed while public vehicles were off the roads.
