First Baksa district VDP meet held

NALBARI, Feb 6: The Baksa district police administration has recently organized a two-day Village Defence Personnel (VDP) convention at the open field in front of SP office, Baksa (Mushalpur). A colourful procession was held which was attended by UDP workers of the district, local cultural parties, police officials, constables, teachers and students through the main roads of rural areas of greater Mushalpur. In the afternoon, a football match was organized between the local Barama party and Bhutan team.
The programme of the second day includes flag hoisting, swahid tarpan, etc. The open session on the occasion was held under the presidentship of Abu Taher Ali Bepari, the advisor of Assam Village Defence organization while Prasanta Kumar Dutta, the superintendent of Baksa explained the object of the convention. Datta, SP of Baksa, while explaining the object said that the first Baksa district convention was organized in collaboration with the 9th Village Defence Party (VDP) Day with two days’ programme.
He also mentioned that the organization is also rendering valuable services particularly in strengthening social harmony and peace in the State.
He remembered the noted contribution of late Harinarayan Barua, the founder of UDP who contributed a lot for development of the society right from January 29, 1952. He urged the extremists to come back to the main strain.
Nripendra Mohan Datta, the IGP, BTAD while addressing the open session as chief guest explained the benevolent works of UDP in establishing peace and harmony in the society. He also praised the role of the district police administration for holding the first district VDP convention to make congenial atmosphere in the society.
Dutta released the souvenir that was published on the occasion of UDP Day. Biswajit Daimary, the chairman of ARTFED, Assam addressing the open session said that the VDP is playing a vital role in prevention and detection of crime in the State.
Dr PC Gohain, DC Baksa said that ever since its inception the Village Defence organization has been working closely with law enforcing agencies in maintaining law and order. He also appealed to public and the VDP workers in particular to contribute to the development of the State.
Hiten Basumatary, the executive member of BTC, Munsing Brahma, the leader of BTC also spoke on the occasion. Abu Taher Ali Ahmed, the Advisor of VDP, Assam highlighted various grievances of the VDP workers.
A few freedom fighters and brilliant students among whom Monoj Swargiary, who stood 7th in the last HSLC examination were felicitated by the District Police Administration during the occasion.
