Special handloom expo’08 in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, Jan 29: ARTFED, The Assam Apex Weavers’ & Artisans’ Cooperative Federation Ltd., Guwahati is organizing the Special Handloom Expo’08, Kokrajhar in collaboration with the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and co-sponsored by the WPT & BC Department, the Government of Asom from February 1-14 at the Rashmela Pathar, Kokrajhar.
The expo aims to facilitate the consumers to purchase genuine Handloom fabrics from the potential productive primary, district level co-operative societies, corporation and federation of the State with other participants from different parts of the country. The expo will create awareness among the weavers and other about the present economic scenario as well as global trend of handwoven textiles through the exposition.
The Handloom Development Corporation, the Apex Weavers’ Co-operatives and other leading organisations are participating in this expo with a wide range of products- silk, cotton, wool, synthetic and blended items of varied colours and textures. Self Help Groups (SHG) on handloom weaving created by the ARTFED under the programme of STEP, the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Plain Tribal Weavers’ NGO, Entrepreneurs sponsored by the Welfare of Plain Tribal & Backward Classes Department, Government of Asom will be allowed to participate.
Chief of Bodoland Territorial Council Hagrama Mahilary will be the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony at 3.30 pm on February 1. Asom WPT & BC Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, Member of Parliament, Kokrajhar, SK Bwiswmuthiary, Deputy Chief of Bodoland Kampa Bogoyario, Speaker of Bodoland Legislative Council Assembly Reo Reoa Narzihari, Executive Member of Handloom & Textile Department, Bodoland, Hitesh Basumatary, Principal Secretary of Bodoland S Thadou, IAS, will be the guests of honour on the occasion. ARTFED chairman will preside over the meeting.
