NGO’s efforts to promote tourism lauded

MUSHALPUR, Feb 2 – With a view to analysing the prospects and challenges of tourism development around Chowki Pagladiya Eco Tourism Centre, a reader-journalist meet was held at the camp premises of Manas Sousi Khongkhor Eco Tourism Society (MSKETS) under Pratiddhani NGO at Uttarkuchi in Baksa district recently.
Debajit Sarma a new generation poet of Mushalpur, anchored the programme entitled “Seuji Subas Bichari Pathak Sangbadikor Hiyar Mel” where Bijoy Chowdhury chairman of the NGO explained the purpose of the meet and answered the questions of the mediapersons regarding the activities of MSKETS on conservation and future course of action plan on tourism development around the tourism centre. Releasing the tourist brochure published by the NGO, Maneswar Brahma, MLA No. 62 Barama LAC stressed on showcasing the biodiversity, places of religious and historical importance as well as the rich ethnic, cultural and linguistic diversity of the areas encompassed by MSKETS. He announced a financial aid of Rs 2 lakh for the development of the tourism centre. The MLA also called upon the mediapersons to focus on the government schemes of self employment so that more and more youths can come ahead to take the advantage of such schemes. Speaking on the occasion, Dhaneswar Hujury, senior journalist and writer lauded the efforts of MSKETS in conservation of forest and wildlife as well as for publication of tourist brochure that will open up the avenues of tourism in and around Chowki Pagladiya Eco Tourism Centre.
Rohini Medhi, vice president, All Assam Journalists Union, Maheswar Barman, president, Baska Press Guild, R. Zingkhai, circle organiser, Bhutankhuti circle, SSB Rangiya Area, Bishnu Prasad Ramchiary, adviser, MSKETS and over thirty media persons from Mushalpur, Barama, Jalah and Dhamdhama areas were felicitated by the NGO members with saplings of trees along with other guests. Himangshu Ramchiary, secretary, MSKETS conducted the agenda of vote of thanks to conclude the meet.
It is to be mentioned here that the tourist brochure includes Buddha temple – Mushalpur, Puran Sripur Devalaya, Puran Sripur village, Natun Sripur Devalaya, Adalbari and Mainapukhuri near Bhutankhuti as places of religious importance while Shah Milauddin’s Dargah, Dhamdhama, Gorbhitor, the rampart of King Phengua, Dhamdhama and Gosain Kamal Ali (Road) have been included as places of historical importance. Samdrup Dzongkhar, the nearest town in Bhutan has been introduced as a place for sight seeing while Bhutia villages Khalasu and Kalbari have been included as trekking sites. The places of scenic beauty include favourite picnic spot Chowki Pagladiya, rendezvous of birds Diringmukh and Chengla pukhuri along with Tihu river source as the only visible source of a river in the state. The brouchure also includes a chart of main trees, birds, mammals and fish of Batabari and Kumarikata forest range.
